New $27 million funding will be used to scale Greyparrot\u2019s AI waste intelligence platform.<\/h4>\n

AI waste intelligence company Greyparrot has raised $27 million (\u00a320M\/\u20ac23M) in Series B funding led by technology investor Omar Mir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Greyparrot’s AI camera systems, known as Analyzers<\/a>, are installed above sorting belts in recycling facilities across more than 20 countries.<\/p>\n

Analyzers identify materials, products and brands in real time, giving operators continuous data on the composition and movement of waste through their facilities.<\/p>\n

Waste and recycling companies Veolia, Biffa, and FCC are amongst the organisations utilising Greyparrot\u2019s technology.<\/p>\n

Ambarish Mitra, co-founder of Greyparrot, said that waste intelligence will \u2018do for materials what satellite data did for navigation\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Facilities using Greyparrot\u2019s real-time AI data have reported efficiency gains of 10% to 30%, with one site saying it saves them more than \u00a31.5 million in a year.<\/p>\n

With the new funding, Greyparrot says its aiming to scale its technology to help abate over one million tonnes of waste by 2030.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Commenting on the funding, Mikela Druckman, co-founder and CEO of Greyparrot, said: \u201cWaste is one of the planet\u2019s largest untapped resources, and data is the infrastructure that unlocks it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis funding lets us scale rapidly across North America and Europe and grow our AI, data science and product teams. The technology, market demand, urgency and momentum are all here, and we are ready to scale our impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consumer goods companies, including Unilever, L\u2019Or\u00e9al and Kenvue, use Greyparrot\u2019s Deepnest platform<\/a> to inform redesign, compliance and exposure to fees under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).<\/p>\n

The same verified data supports regulators, national waste audits and statutory reporting. Earlier this year, Biffa and FCC were among the \u2018first\u2019 waste management companies globally to use AI for compliance reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Greyparrot says that less than 0.1% of the world\u2019s estimated 2.3 billion tonnes of annual solid waste<\/a> is currently audited, which means operators, brands and policymakers have limited visibility into where valuable materials are lost.<\/p>\n

Pew and Systemiq<\/a> estimate that between $80 billion and $120 billion of plastic value is lost through linear systems each year.<\/p>\n

Waste intelligence aims to turn these material flows into measurable data. Greyparrot says that across its network, the materials identified by its Analyzers represent an estimated \u00a31.87 billion in recoverable value.<\/p>\n

This includes 17.4 billion PET bottles and 4.2 billion aluminium items, a metal that can be recycled using up to 95% less energy than producing it new.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor decades, waste has been a blind spot. Nations compete for resources while burying and burning existing resources. What’s been missing is the ability to measure what they\u2019re losing,\u201d Mitra commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you can measure a material, you can trade it and invest in it. That is when the circular economy stops being an ambition and becomes infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
