I agree, if you put it in the context of $20.00 for 3 minutes of instructional video content, it may sound expensive. However, the content in the second video did not take 3 only minutes to make.
It is the result of teaching this technique for 12 years. Articulating that experience into a working script and 40 + hours of video and editing. Not to mention the hours spent in the creation of a webpage that allows you to download the video directly to your computer without any shipping charges.
You may also consider that our bricks and mortar version of the class is $150.00 We have taught this class at The North House Folk School, The Vesterheim Norwegian Museum and The clearing Folk School in Door County. Our feedback forms given the class rave reviews! Many of my students have made recouped their investment selling the artwork from this technique.
As an experienced ( 25 yrs)Designer Goldsmith, I can testify that there are no other jewelry techniques that require such a minimal amount of tools with such a grand result. Your $50.00 for the video set is an investment well spent.
Like many “instructional” video’s, plenty of self indulgent wafffle…safety goggles…watch the cat dont get in the way, then a quick, blurry bit of actually how to do it….AND in this case, the guy tried to sell the remainding parts of the ‘how to’. (what an a*ss). Promote your products/business yes, but utube aint for direct selling of video material.
An amateur’ly filmed, bad instructional video, from a greedy guy.
I say ole chap do excuse me. The symphony I hired to do the background music dipped into the champagne while the film crew was setting up. I had to send them all home, insurance liability and all. BTW you have lovely manicured fingernails. :=)
Diving in through the crap being thrown about….. I absolutely enjoyed your tutorial. Being a knitter, this was totally understandable. I have seen pictures of the ‘old’ artifacts and have always wondered about what looked like a twisted knit stitch I-cord in yummy silver/gold metals. Thank you for your time and expertise. The kindergarten class members need just to go back to manners/ettiquette for a review. Lovely work.
Hi Kary, I hope you check your You Tube often. I would like to make this chain for a project for my Silversmithing class, but am finding it difficult to find your Videos 2 and 3 that are supposedly available on your website. I do not see them listed. I need to complete the project by next Monday. I am in Kansas City, so unfortunately cannot take classes from you–but would love to!
Thanks,
Jenny
It’s not perfect, but thanks to the visual, I can DO this now! This is a great basis for building off of. ( I never just use only one source anyway.) There are hundreds of websites that will help with other aspects of this. So he doesn’t have to cover EVERYTHING there is to know. And yes. I”m sure he would like you to take the class too, but he was nice enough to show us this much for FREE.
Stop being so rude.
Thank you for this video. I’m sorry there are idiots out there commenting on here. This beginning video is perfect and freakin hi-tech as can be for someone in Lanesboro. My friend even hesitated to show me in person, it takes lots of patience and time and effort. Its not something you can learn by just one video anyway. Thanks for continuing Scandinavian culture in Minnesota!
Thank you, fluid I wish you the best.
Great video! I love the bit of history! Easy to follow and good photography. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort it takes to put together a good instructional video!
i love this video it is the only one that CLEARLY shows step by step how to start a viking knit . as soon as i can i will be investing in the other videos as i think they are very pretty and want one for my daughters wedding
thank you for posting the Viking Chain Making video – free lessons are so wonderful!
2:15 you made a mistake with your measurements on the alen key, you said 1/8ths of a milimeter thick, thats tiny!
where/when can i find part 2?
This is a great tutorial but you should post part 2 and 3 on youtube instead of charging 45 bucks to see them. Share your talents to the poor people too.
Thank you for the feedback. I will be posting more jewelry making videos on other topics like stone setting, soddering and piercing. Due to circumstances beyond my control I presently do not have access to my studio and my tools.
I was thinking about charging about 9.99 to 19.99 for the new videos and possibly reducing the price of the Viking knit series. Please subscribe to my channel
The intros to the new videos will be posted on uTube.
As for sharing all my knowledge for free? I am adamant that artist and craftspeople should get paid for their experience and knowledge.
