Educational Benefits of Train Sets
Building model railways is a hobby enjoyed by people of all ages. Both parents and children can get a lot out of building and operating model rail systems.
The Hornby name has been associated with top quality model railways since way back in the early 1900’s. This early guage ‘0′ model was originally powered with a powerful wind up clockwork motor. The clockwork powered model was soon replaced by a mains powered model running on 100 to 250 volts. Sensibly, by 1929 Hornby had developed a safe, 6 volt system.
Hornby train sets suit every level of interest, from beginner to enthusiast. Interacting with your children is enormously beneficial for them and a model train system can provide the basis for that interaction. It can stimulate communication, it can help develop cooperation and aid education. Interactive play between you and your child is also a really great way to bond.
A model train system can be thought of as an aid to creative play. Children can imagine all sorts of stories unfolding around the railway system. Adding a few accessories like trackside buildings, trees and people can really bring the whole system alive.
All children need to play, its an essential part of the natural learning process. Parents playing with their children is particularly beneficial. By playing with your children you will learn a whole lot about them. You will find out what interests them, where they have particular skills and what concerns them. The model railway system can provide a great stimulus for creative play. Observing your child while they play is also an excellent way to see how your child is developing.
Building a railway system with my father is one of my personal lasting memories. He clearly enjoyed the process of setting up the track and getting the system working and his enthusiasm was infectious. He and I would make up elaborate stories involving the people around the track, the stations and the trains.
So if you are looking for a way to interact with your young children I suggest that you consider a little train set.
