Are We Ready to Believe in America Again?

Now that the election and inauguration of Barack Obama is history, it will be interesting to watch whether the surge of patriotism we saw will be something we can count on going forward. The fact that we elected our first African American president was significant, but we have yet to see if that interest will translate into anything long term.

Whether people know it or not, it would be beneficial to all of us, because it’s finally time for us to be unified as one nation. For example, there would be great benefit to veterans if this unification happened. Many were wounded in American wars and in some cases, they were met with less than full appreciation for their contributions when they returned home. That’s the reason I felt compelled to design some free Veterans Day clip art that promotes the idea that we should honor veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That show of support could mean a lot to veterans who feel their country has forgotten them.

But we need to do more than just send annual Memorial or Veterans Day vintage patriotic greeting cards. Our appreciation for them needs to be constant. Our veterans have earned it. If that support doesn’t come from us; where will it come from?

On the other hand, every American – not just veterans – would benefit from the unification of our country. It would be wonderful to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. Hopefully, that outpouring of feeling will move us all a little closer to lasting peace.

At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to be. Some are vehemently opposed to the new president’s changes. But that’s to be expected. The principle is that having diverse strong opinions will keep the decision-making process balanced. We hope so anyway! Americans will just have to see what happens.
