N Gauge Trains – Discover Why They’re Increasing In Popularity
N gauge trains are one of the most popular choices for model railroading. Typically half the size of its HO counterpart, hobbyists are able to add more track and create a more elaborate layout. It can also be applied with other train gauges to create a look of distance and increase the dimensions of the set up. Whether new to the world of model trains or someone looking for a new challenge, working with this size is truly rewarding.
This train type is continually growing in popularity because of its smaller size, (the distance between the two rails on the track is 9mm). There are some model railroaders that don’t have the space needed to build larger sized models and choose the N train models to fit the space they have. The smaller size allows room for so many more parts and accessories for model railroaders trying to create a more detailed display. No matter the reason, this size works well on a variety of levels.
When purchasing parts for this type of a set, be sure to look and see where the parts were manufactured. In countries throughout Europe, the MOROP is the standard for these types of models, but the US follows the NMRA (National Model Railroad Association). Both groups work closely together to try and create a perfect compatibility, but this trains popularity makes that next to impossible. Examples of this are that in Japan, the ratio is 1:150 but in Europe countries, the ratio is 1:160. Although the actual difference appears very small, there are some pieces some sets that will not fit well together. To work them together, it may take some time.
N gauge trains have become a centerpiece of the model train hobby. No detail is given up in the smaller size and the amount of work that goes into each piece is up to the individual. Even though this train scale is lighter in weight, it does not loose the appearance of its larger counterpart when weathering and aging details are added. It’s easily possible to give each of the parts an authentic feel and when finished, it makes for an amazing creation of this size put together.
