Saving Scrapbooking Costs

More and more people are getting hooked on scrapbooking these days. The wide selection of scrapbooking tools and materials available at arts and crafts stores will attest to that. Some of these items even come with surprisingly steep prices. So, are you thinking of embracing the hobby as well, but concerned of the fortune you might need to spend?

It’s true that some scrapbookers shell out huge sums of money for the craft. However, there’s a different approach to it: the economical way! You can come up with charming and one-of-a-kind creations even without exceeding a certain budget. The following are some tips on how you can do just that.

First you should come up with an album where everything will be placed in. You may use the flaps of huge cartons in creating an album cover. If you got binders lying around, rip off unused pages and you got an instant cover. Now’s the time to jumpstart your creativeness in giving it a face-lift. Ready-made albums can come with steep prices.

Used folders or any considerably thick sheet of paper may be used as scrapbook pages. Strategically placing photos and embellishments will cover up the flaws, like doodling, tears and stains. How about doing that recycled paper project back in your school days? Where you turn strips of newspaper into pulp, then you let thin sheets on a mesh dry under the sun?

Before throwing out old clothing, save some of the fabrics, buttons, cords, and others which could act as ornaments. Look around your husband’s workbench for small items like nuts, washers, etc. Some of the nicest embellishments you can use do not necessarily have to come from arts and crafts shops. Some of them are just lying around your home, waiting to be used creatively.

Save small items from moments that are likely to end up as part of your scrapbook. Keep the ticket stub when you watch your son play his takamine acoustic guitar in a school program. Gather flat shells and pebbles during your family’s beach vacation. Save a party hat, goody bag or confetti used during your daughter’s birthday bash.

For the cutting tools, you may simply borrow from a friend or co-worker who’s also into the craft. But the truth is, a pair of sharp scissors and a crafting knife will suffice for most of your cutting needs. It’s possible to come up with dazzling pages even without buying anything expensive. Just as long as you let your imagination and resourcefulness guide you.

The Kershaw Leek…a Birthday Present?

I am not a huge enthusiast of the knife. My boyfriend is, he’s at all times carrying the knife about. Merely because he finds knives useful. I really wondered if he was crazy, who requires a blade so frequently? After I began requesting him to utilize it every day though, I realized possibly it wasn’t so weird… hence he purchased me my own meant for my birthday.

I must have given him one dirty look when I opened my gift to find a knife of all things! He apologized, nevertheless said I will recognize its significance rapidly. I simply had to promise him I’d hold it for a few days. The next morning I put it into my purse. He speedily took it out and explained to me I was to wear it on my pants. He showed me a pocket clip it has on it, and clipped it on. Not quite the fashion statement I was looking for.

To my amazement I barely noticed the knife hanging from my belt. I would have to make use of it once at my job, now out of curiosity I got it out and looked at closely it. It was labeled as a Kershaw Leek. At the present, I comprehend zero regarding knives so I Google it.

To my wonder Kershaw is a very well recognized knife maker. They are considered very great quality. The kind I have, the Kershaw Leek, is one of the smaller styles, perfect for a little girl similar to me. It measures approximately four inches whilst closed. It comes with a ingenious assisted opening device which doubles as a safety mechanism. In essence, it will not unlock if not you use your thumb to press on the button, but then it opens all by itself.

Even though I hate admitting it to my beloved bf, I carry the Kershaw Leek day after day, and find it very handy, it is practically cute. I would love to paint the casing pink, but I might give the boy a heart attack!

How To Help Your Kids Feel More Creative

Many of us getting frustrated with seeing our kids spend most of the day sitting around watching the television or surfing the Web. We’d like them to be more creative and active, but aren’t sure of how to do it. Though it can be a struggle to find something that interests them, this short guide might be able to help you find something creative for them to do.

Talk to your kids about the things they enjoy or dream of being able to do. Many kids hope to do certain things, like play an instrument or dance, but do not talk about it openly. When talking to your child, be very open and encouraging. Talk to them in a very positive manner.

Lots of children dream of being able to play an instrument, and the guitar seems to be especially popular. Do not buy a guitar for your child on your own, take her or him with you. You need to make sure the guitar you buy is the right size for their hands and is easy for them to hold and play. Look for a guitar that sounds good to them and don’t forget to buy plenty of picks, some strings, and an electronic tuner.

For kids who enjoy rock music or need a guitar that has a big sound, a Dreadnought acoustic guitar is a good choice. These are usually quite a bit larger than other types of guitars, which is how they create a full sound. However, this makes them very hard to play for small kids.

There are many guitar brands to choose from, but you usually can’t go wrong with an Alvarez acoustic guitar. These guitars sound great and come in many shapes and sizes, which means you should be able to find one you like the sound and feel of.

Not every child will want to make music. A simple activity that you can do with your child is to create a scrapbook together. Scrapbook pages and other tools can be bought at many stores. Also, your child will probably enjoy creatively documenting their life experiences with you.

If your kids like drawing or writing, you might want to buy graphics or desktop publishing software. This will allow them to be creative and pick up new useful skills.

Talk to your kids about what they would like to achieve in life, or learn to do. Encourage them with positive words and provide them with the tools they need to succeed.

If you are like thousands of others who cannot wait to take photos at every occasion and get them printed only to dispose of them into a drawer. It is a habit many of us share, but there is a solution for getting all of those photos out on display. Scrape booking is a fun and creative hobby that is simple to get friends and family together.

If you are new to the hobby there is plenty of information on the web with easy instructions on getting started. It is best to use your imagination for decorative items to use on the photos as some of the kits can be expensive and complicated.

Imagination is key in making exciting and unique albums. For example if you have a picture of your three year old riding a big wheel, adding a cut out of a black helmet will make the photo have a funny depth to it. Using out of the ordinary items is the perfect way to add flair to ordinary photos.

Having a birthday picture party every Saturday afternoon for a month will get all of your friends and family involved in a fun creative way to spend the day organizing photos. Send out birthday invitations with instructions that it is not an actual birthday so the only thing to bring is a scrapbook album, the pictures from their oldest Child’s previous birthday and some odd decorative items to be used on the photo albums.

You could include a list of to bring items that specify an exact amount of photographs. For example, each guest is to bring twenty pictures from their last birthday party, regardless of how old the photos are. If you are sure no one has any items to bring, you could have everyone meet at the hobby shop prior to going to your party.

Each guest could bring six sheets of their favorite scrapbooking papers and a few of their favorite decorative items. All items could be put into a ‘community’ pile and all guests could use items from the pile. The rules would be to only use what is in the existing group of items. This will make for some hilarious and far from ordinary albums.

Including others in this creative hobby will make for fun get together. Have a different theme each week and remember to rotate names for each book. It will be fun to look at your collection of photos when at the end of the month you have had four different friends create a photo album for you. The more guests you invite to your weekly photo parties, the more creativity you have in your albums.
