Organizing your Craft Hobbies- Pin Cushions

Reborn baby dolls or newborn baby dolls (these terms can be used interchangeably and refer to the same type of dolls) are a specific type of plastic baby dolls that are crafted to look just like real babies. This crafting is done by artists that are referred to as “reborners”. The process of creating these dolls is referred to as “reborning”. Recently these dolls have gained quite a bit of popularity in the mainstream media. The focus of these media stories often revolves around the question of whether reborning is just a hobby, or if it is an unhealthy obsession. This article examines that question.

And this is where storage sheds can be a wonderful addition to your home. Using an outdoor storage shed for your craft materials not only opens up room in your home, it also gives you plenty of space to help keep all your materials more organized. There are many different types of hobbies we all have though, so here are several ideas for how a storage shed can help with one or more of your own, or your family’s favorite hobbies.

Whether you love to crochet, knit, sew clothing, create quilts, or embroidery, if you’re like the rest of us you have tons of extra supplies. It’s just not possible to resist a sale on beautiful yarns or fabrics, and you know you’ll use everything sooner or later, right?.

What about those who say that the reborners go too far to make the dolls realistic?
There is a popular saying that “Art imitates life”. Evidence of this can be seen in many forms of art. Painters who make extremely like-like portraits are hailed as being masters of their craft. The same holds true for sculptors, model makers, and other artists. In fact, a goal of many books and learning courses is to teach students to become better at capturing what they see. Should the same rules not apply to all artists and crafters, including reborners?.

They make the replicas to look and sound exactly like the originals. Collecting replica train whistles and horns can be more cost effective and just as much fun to share with friends and family once located. Everyone will enjoy the distinctive sounds from your whistles and horns.

Use other bins to hold your fabrics for sewing, scrapbooking or other hobbies too, and again separate these by color, fabric type, or project you plan to use them for.

Try putting in a filing cabinet, shelves, or small bins to hold your project patterns and instructions too. You could have individual binders on shelves for instance, which hold your crochet or knitting patterns, clothing sewing patterns, and Scrapbooks you create too.

Knitting is an art from using yarn or thread to create various pieces of cloth ranging from sweaters and blankets to gloves and socks. With the use of loops and stitches strung between two needles, the cloth takes shape both by hand and by machine. To create the different textures and sizes, one will need various types of needles and yarn.

Yarn and needles are the only absolute fundamentals of kitting. Many options are available when it comes to choosing a pair of knitting needles. To start with, you may have double-pointed (DPN), cable, circular, or straight needles. Straight needles are perhaps the most common type of knitting needles and will be used for a majority of basic kitting projects.

There are several things to consider when using knitting needles as well. You will have a variety of different diameters to choose from, and you will want to select the size of the knitting needle based on how small or large you wish your stitches to be. Wider needles will produce larger loops and stitches while smaller ones will give a tighter, more compact stitch.

You will find that knitting needles are generally made out of four common materials, those being metal, wood, plastic, and bamboo. The wood and bamboo needles are rougher, therefore offering more traction and ensuring you are less likely to drop stitches. Plastic needles are not often very sturdy and probably should not be the first choice. Metal needles are smooth and great for quick knitting as the yarn will not catch.

One uses straight needles most often for flat knitting such as blankets or scarves. They produce straight, even rows. Circular knitting needles, long and flexible with a double point, are used for flat or circular knitting. Straight double-pointed needles are also used for circular knitting but used to achieve a smaller tube such as for a collar or sock.

There are a few accessories which will make one’s life easier as they begin knitting. In order to keep your set together and your points sharp, it’s good to have a protective carrying case. There you may also store something known as a needle gauge which will help you determine the size of each knitting needle.

Scrap booking is not only a terrific hobby, it is also a way to keep and preserve memories. In addition to the pictures and knick-knacks, how you decorate and the decorations you use say also a lot about the event and how you felt about it. But sometimes, you can feel limited with just some glue, stickers and a pair of scissors. Wouldn’t it be great if you could make custom-made paper crafts, being able to cut any shape and not be limited by preset paper punches?

Provo Craft has made that possible with the Cricut. The Cricut machine, pronounced the way you would the word ‘cricket’, uses cartridges to create precise die-cut shapes and letters without having to use a computer or other hardware.

If you’re thinking of buying your own Cricut cutting machine, you can more about it and how to take advantage of its creative potential, with this quick run-through.

The machine comes as a portable unit that plugs into a standard 110-volt electrical outlet. Each machine may have specific installation procedures so go over the manual before operating it the first time.

A Cricut machine comes as a standard package with one cartridge. If you need more, you can purchase more cartridges through craft and scrapbook specialty shops, discount shops, or even online retailers. The blade is electronically guided which means that you do not have to do anything to operate the Cricut beyond pressing the ‘on’ button and feeding the paper into the machine.

As far as paper stock is concerned, the Cricut can cut vellum and board stock up to half a millimeter in thickness. To maximize the machine’s potential, you can also buy cardstock and designer paper made by Provo Craft that work with the shape Cricut cartridges.

The Cricut can cut letters and shapes as tall as 1 to 5 and half inches tall and as long as 11 inches. (Basically, the limit is dictated by the paper stock you use.) It has a paper-saving option that lays out letters and shapes in such a way that waste paper is minimized with each project.

Cricut cartridges come in as several variations and shapes as you can think of. They also come in themes and motifs depending on the subject of your project. The selection ranges from sports to Hannah Montana Cricut Cartridges, and from beach to wedding themes. You’ll be able to find one that meets your event and project.

Candle Making Wax…Basic Characteristics

Candle making has grown tremendously in the past few decades and this exponential growth has led to the further improvement in quality, availability and sheer diversity of wax, which as we all know, is one of the main ingredients of candle making. Candles have traditionally been made from a variety of wax which is extracted from two major sources – natural sources like vegetable, insects and animal fat, and manufactured materials like paraffin and gel.

Paraffin wax is one of the most abundant wax used to make candles today. It is manufactured or refined from petroluem. The majority of candles made today are crafted from paraffin wax which is very cheap and is commonly available everywhere. In various parts of the world, plant materials like soybeans and palm oil are extensively used also to make candle wax. Naturally produced wax are refined from such plant materials like soy beans and palm. United States is noted for massive production of soybeans from which natural soy wax is extracted. Soy wax has swiftly grown in popularity as it is commonly available, cheap to make, renewable and eco-friendly.

Another plant-based wax that is rapidly growing in popularity is Palm wax. It is a renewable resource extracted from the palm tree which is naturally found growing in hot climates of the world like Asia and Africa. Some of the countries where palm trees are grown, quite unfortunately, are regularly destroying vast areas of woodland or forest to make way for palm tree plantations mainly because of the ever growing popularity of palm oil and palm wax in the world market.

This unfortunate destruction of virgin woodlands has contributed significantly to the global warming phenomenon affecting every part of planet earth today. Tens of thousands of endangered animal species has also been displaced by this wanton destruction of their natural habitats. Damaging our ecosystem in this irresponsible way is such a massive price to pay for the growing popularity of palm produce.

Candles have been fashioned from animal products for many centuries. In Egypt, candles are known to have been made from beeswax since early 3000 BC, and the Chinese are also known to have made candles from whale fat during the Qin Dynasty. Candles made from natural beeswax is available in different colors and it is quite popular among candle makers. Although it is more expensive than paraffin wax or palm wax, candle makers are drawn to this wax by its natural fragrance and its burning characteristics.

A new kind of material people are using to make candles now is Gel. Gel candles are rubbery in texture and transluscent but it burns just like candles made from any other kind of wax. Gel wax is available in three different densities – low, medium and high. The type of candle you want to make and the amount of scent you want to add will dictate the gel density you need to use. Low density gel is best for candles that contain 0-3% of fragrance, and it is usually poured at low temperatures. Medium density gel is probably the most popular gel for making gel candles and it is best with candles that contain 3-5% of fragrance. High density gel wax requires to be poured at much higher temperatures than the other two and is better for candles that contain a heavier percentage of fragrance.

Candle makers now-a-days are spoilt for choice considering the bewildering array of wax available on the market for the candle making craft. You can pick and choose the type of wax that works best for you and the type of candle you are planning to make. An understanding of the basic characteristics and quality of every type of wax will empower most candle lovers to use type of wax to its full potential in creating their unique candles.
